Police are looking for two men who badly beat and robbed an 80-year-old man in the underground garage of his Park Ridge condominium late Friday, then drove him to the South Side of Chicago where they left him in the trunk of his car.

After knocking the man unconscious, the assailants handcuffed and gagged him, then put him in the trunk of his silver 2003 Buick, Park Ridge Police Chief Jeffrey Caudill said.

Chicago police officers found the man, who asked not to be identified, Saturday morning wandering in the 7200 block of South Vincennes Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood with his hands still bound.

“One guy came out from behind the cars, says, `It’s a holdup’ or something, `Give us the money,'” said the victim, whose face was bruised and covered with abrasions. “I was going to fight him, and a second guy came out. They beat me up.”

The man said he believes he was targeted because he handles large amounts of cash for a business he runs. He said he was attacked and beaten during a home invasion several years ago. He said police arrested that attacker.

“It should be noted that this was not a random act. It was an isolated incident against a certain individual,” said a notice posted by the man’s Park Ridge condominium association.

The man said he thinks his attackers might have slipped into the underground garage as the automatic door shut behind him.

He told police the two men confronted him late Friday after he had parked his car, Caudill said. He said they demanded money and during a struggle he was hit on the head several times and knocked unconscious.

“Whatever it was [they hit him with], it was a good shot,” the man said.

Police believe the assailants stole the man’s keys and wallet, and burglarized his home.

“The place was ransacked,” Caudill said. “We still don’t know the extent of what was taken.”

Caudill said the victim had been wandering along Vincennes, still handcuffed, for 10 or 15 minutes when Chicago police found him. The man said at least 10 cars passed by before a car with three women stopped.

They wouldn’t roll down their window, but they called police, the victim said. He was taken to a South Side hospital and released Saturday, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call 847-318-5267.
