Chile Pepper magazine’s August issue salutes Chicago and its wide-ranging Mexican fare in “Windy City Wonders.” Author David K. Gibson deems Chicago second only to Mexico City in regional breadth and authenticity–with credit going to the city’s diverse Mexican population. The chefs and restaurants that are spotlighted–Rick Bayless of Frontera Grill/Topolobampo, Paul LoDuca of Adobe Grill and Priscila Satkoff of Salpicon–won’t be news to locals, but the seven no-holds-barred recipes they contribute offer a wonderful excuse (as if you needed one) to visit Mexican markets in search of ingredients. Elsewhere in the magazine are articles on cooking of the Yucatan and a short history of the margarita, and dozens of recipes. It is on newsstands through late August and costs $4.95. The magazine also has developed a Web site, www.chilepepper.com.
