Elk Grove softball pitcher Megan Huitink turned in her usual stellar performance Monday afternoon.

Huitink fired a three-hitter with 18 strikeouts to help the Grenadiers hand No. 10 Barrington (23-1, 8-1) its first loss of the season, a 2-0 decision in a Mid-Suburban crossover game.

The junior, who ran her record to 14-2, issued one walk and faced only 25 hitters.

“Megan had a terrific game against a team that’s been very productive offensively,” Elk Grove coach Ken Grams said.

Elk Grove (16-5, 8-1) scored both of its runs in the third inning. Jessica Evans doubled and scored the first run on an infield error. Kristen Infusino walked and eventually scored on Barrington starter Samantha Deevy’s second wild pitch of the inning.

“She’s been such a leader offensively,” said Grams about Evans, who delivered her team’s only two hits of the game. “We’ve had a lot of one-run games, and she’s either scoring or driving in the run.”
