Silverado Vineyards, perhaps the most understated Disney creation (it was founded by Walt Disney’s wife and daughter) has once again released several impeccably made wines, these from the 1998 and 1999 vintages.
With vineyards in and near the Stags Leap district of the Napa Valley, it is no surprise that Silverado produces high quality cabernet and merlot. But the winery also produces outstanding sauvignon blanc.
The grapes that made this sauvignon blanc came through a hot summer and a rushed harvest in perfect condition. The sauvignon is a stylish dry wine, about 60 percent of which was fermented in small French oak barrels. It offers tropical fruit aromas (with pineapple front and center) and a tart herbal taste that has an immediate appeal, suggesting that this will be a popular aperitif.
At the dining table, pair it with summer salads featuring chicken, salmon, fruit or fresh goat cheese. With a price of $14, it is a classy bargain.
