The Village Board has agreed to solicit bids for a $1.3 million redesign of South End Park, a 6-acre site along the west side of the Fox River between South 1st and 3rd Streets.

The project’s goal is to turn the park into a passive recreation area and stabilize and beautify the shore.

The park’s active recreation areas, such as its basketball court, will be on the north end of the park and the passive ones at the south end, where a picnic shelter will be relocated and a gazebo added. A scenic overlook, a canoe launch and a rescue boat launch also will be added.

Work on the park is expected to begin Aug. 1 and be completed next spring.
