The Bensenville Village Hall property could become a site for a chain drug store.
Last week, village officials entered into an agreement with CVS Corp., the national drugstore chain, according to Deputy Village Manager James Johnson. The company bid $1.2 million for the Village Hall property at Church and Irving Park Roads.
Because Village Hall is within a tax increment financing district, the bidding on the site is open for two weeks. The TIF freezes the tax rate on the property for 22 years, Johnson said.
CVS wants to build a 10,880-square-foot store on the property. The village plans on using proceeds from the sale toward construction of a 15,000-square-foot village hall on Center Street, south of the Metra railroad tracks.
Under the agreement, village offices could stay in the building until a new village hall is completed or until March 31, 2003, whichever comes first, Johnson said. Beyond that date, the village could rent the building from CVS until construction is finished.
The cost of a new village hall has not been set.
“The good thing is that now we are putting a property that is currently off tax roles on the tax roles,” Johnson said.
