For people with disabilities, getting dressed can be difficult. An Evanston company, Accessible Threads, offers alternatives.

People who use a scooter or wheelchair can benefit from an easy-to-wear, unisex poncho in red, hunter green or navy. Made of brushed nylon, they cost $60, or $100 with a flannel lining that is water resistant and machine washable.

In addition, special bibs called “Oops! Shirts” are available for $23. They are made of vinyl and come in white with button details to look like a simple shirt, or gold or silver for a fancier look.

Wardrobe alterations, such as replacing zippers and buttons on jeans or button-down shirts with Velcro or snaps, can be done–allowing people with disabilities to wear the same fashionable clothing as their friends and colleagues. Prices vary by alteration.
