Rezoning to be paid by village

The Village Council annexed 50 acres known as the Downers Grove Estates/Meadowlawn area.

The land, located on the village’s southern border, includes 119 property owners.

The village plans to rezone commercial properties at the corner of 63rd and Main Streets to a community business classification.

The properties on the east side of Main Street will be zoned to a residential classification that will accommodate larger lots.

The ordinance will not be recorded until Jan. 1 for tax purposes. Kenneth Rathje, director of planning services, said the village will rezone the area at no cost to residents.

Typically each rezoning could cost $400, he said.
