MAN GETS 15 YEARS FOR ROBBERY, BEATING

Mario Alvarez, 23, of Glendale Heights was sentenced Thursday to 15 years in prison for punching a woman in the face and stealing her purse outside of a department store and for breaking into an 84-year-old man’s home and robbing him.

“What you took from them was more important than money, you took their security and their piece of mind,” said DuPage Judge Perry Thompson.

Assistant State’s Atty. David Bayer said that since 1997, when Alvarez came to live in the western suburbs, he is responsible for nine crimes.
