Illinois House Republicans have selected Roosevelt University in Schaumburg as the site of a hearing into skyrocketing gasoline prices, state Rep. Terry Parke (R-Hoffman Estates) announced Tuesday.

The hearing is to start at 2 p.m., June 29 at the university, 1400 N. Roosevelt Blvd. Parke, in a prepared statement, said Illinois drivers “are being gouged.” He is part of a group of House Republicans who want to remove the state’s 5 percent sales tax on gasoline.

Representatives of the petroleum, ethanol and trucking industries have been invited to testify. Parke sits on the House Consumer and Energy Committees and is co-chairman of the Illinois Economic and Fiscal Commission.

The hearing is one of nine planned around the state.
