The Orland Park Village Board has approved a developer’s plan to build a 277-seat restaurant in the east parking lot of the Orland Park Place mall property.

The restaurant, Buca di Beppo, was approved although the planned 7,880-square-foot building would be large for the development site, according to village building codes, village officials said.

The plan did not meet the required setbacks of 80 feet from the front curb, 40 feet from the rear property line and 50 feet from the side property line. The Village Board agreed to allow the project to be constructed with a 25-foot front setback, a 3-foot rear setback and a 28-foot side setback.

The restaurant is included in the $32 million plan by Chicago-based Hiffman Shaffer Associates Inc. to renovate the Orland Park Place mall, south of 151st Street between La Grange Road and 94th Avenue.

Last year, the company gutted the interior halls of the shopping center and constructed new retail space on the 55-acre site. The restaurant will be built on one of three parcels planned for development along 94th Avenue.
