Sixpence None the Richer

Sixpence None the Richer (Squint)

After two years of sweating out contract hassles, the demise of their former record label and a near breakup, Sixpence None The Richer has emerged with a biting, breathtaking album. Sixpence moves onward and upward on this jangly effort; the shivery “Kiss Me” sounds like a more freewheeling version of Natalie Merchant-era 10,000 Maniacs. And in a bold stroke that succeeds, the band airs its recent, real-life troubles on the disc’s opening trilogy. The mood is captured perfectly as lead vocalist Leigh Nash breathes her melancholy over the steel-wool guitar strumming of “Anything.” Guitarist-cellist Matt Slocum shines with his cinematic lyrics and goosebumpy guitar runs, and credit producer Steve Taylor with giving the band room to breathe.
