Bellwood police said Sunday they had made no arrests in the fatal shooting Saturday morning of a 36-year-old man who had apparently scuffled with two armed men in his back yard.
The men forced their way into the home of Gilbert Ball, of the 400 block of 22nd Avenue, about 7 a.m., Bellwood Police Chief Greg Moore said. As the men struggled, Ball was shot three times in the back, Moore said.
Responding to reports of gunfire, police found Ball, a car detailer at a local Lincoln-Mercury car dealership, bleeding to death. He was pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood.
Moore said investigators have not determined a motive for the shooting. Ball’s wife and infant daughter were inside the house at the time but were not harmed. Nothing from the house appeared to be missing, Moore said.
The other two shootings took place in Chicago.
At 11 p.m. Saturday, Reginald McGee, 25, of the 600 block of North Ridgeway Avenue, was shot by several men as McGee ran from the men a few doors away from his home, police said.
Three to five men chased McGee, then shot him, in an attack that was possibly gang or drug-related, Harrison Area Sgt. Michael Siciliano said.
Stray bullets also struck Ernest Bryant, 42, of Chicago and a 37-year-old Maywood man, Siciliano said, both of whom were standing in the area.
“They were just out there,” he said. “They weren’t a part of it.”
Bryant was treated and released from Norwegian-American Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said. The other man, whose name officials would not release, was treated and released from Mt. Sinai Hospital Medical Center.
Police have no one in custody in connection with the shootings.
Just after midnight Sunday, on the 5100 block of South Emerald Avenue, one man was killed and another injured in a shooting police believe may have been gang-related.
Raymond Golden, 43, of the 5200 block of South Lowe Avenue, was killed when he was shot by someone standing across the street from Golden, Wentworth Area Sgt. Stan Zaborac said.
“It has the earmarks of a gang shooting,” he said.
Carl Price, 48, of the 5100 block of South Union Avenue, was also shot and was listed in serious condition Sunday at Cook County Hospital, a spokeswoman for the hospital said.
Police had made no arrests in the shooting, Zaborac said. It was not clear if Golden and Price were the intended targets.
Authorities also were trying to determine the cause of death of a man found Sunday in a North Side alley.
Shortly after 6 a.m., a passerby found the body of Edward Gonzales, 43, of the 1900 block of West Roscoe Street, in an alley of the 4400 block of North Winchester Avenue, police said.
