Naperville North, playing without leading scorer Henry Domercant, combined Chad Plotke’s hot shooting with clutch fourth-quarter baskets in a 68-62 DuPage Valley Conference victory Friday night at West Aurora. It was the first home-court loss since February 1995 for last year’s Class AA state runner-up.
“We scored 44 points in the first half,” Naperville North coach Mark Lindo said. “That’s basically unheard of against West Aurora.”
Naperville North (5-1, 1-1) took a 44-35 halftime lead with the long-range shooting of Plotke. The senior forward hit six first-half three-pointers while scoring 20 of his game-high 26 points.
West Aurora (3-3, 1-1) cut the Huskies’ lead to 57-54 with just over 3 minutes left. But Jordan Monson (10 points) hit a three-pointer 30 seconds later to extend Naperville North’s lead to 60-54.
“We had a great flow in the first half, and that’s probably an understatement,” Lindo said. “This was a game we really needed to win.”
Domercant, who averaged 20 points in Naperville North’s first four games, has missed the last two because of “academic deficiencies,” Lindo said.
