Illinois’ rush linebacker position was hit hard Tuesday by two developments.
Junior Cyron Brown of Lane Tech was dismissed from the squad for a violation of team rules and redshirt freshman Eric Jefferson, of Shreveport, La., was granted a release from his scholarship for unspecified medical reasons.
Brown played in all 11 games for the Illini last fall, recording 34 tackles, 21 of them unassisted, and two sacks.
A high school All-American, the 6-foot-4-inch, 255-pound Jefferson was considered one of the top 10 prospects in the nation when he signed with Illinois last February.
