The driver of a flatbed truck carrying a load of bricks escaped with only minor injuries Tuesday morning after his vehicle hit a train, McHenry County sheriff’s police said.

Douglas Allen Lee, 42, of Harvard, was treated at Memorial Hospital of Woodstock with a few scrapes on his head after his truck, carrying 48,000 pounds of cement blocks, hit the rear of a moving engine on a four-car Chicago & Northwestern freight train.

Lee was on the north side of the tracks on Dunham Road north of Coral Road when he failed to see the train coming about 10:30 a.m., he told police. By the time he slammed on his breaks, it was too late to come to a complete stop.

There are warning signs but no flashing lights or crossing gates at the intersection.

Lee was ticketed with disobeying a warning signal, police said.
