Toxicology results on blood and other body fluids will be used to determine the cause of death of an 18-year-old Barrington man whose body was found in a shallow creek near Cary.

Forrest F. Powers III, of 370 Eastern Ave., was found Friday afternoon face down and fully clothed in a creek near Crystal Lake Avenue and Silver Lake Road. He had been visiting a girlfriend less than a block away and was last seen leaving her house at 10 a.m., authorities said.

Undersheriff Les Kottke of the McHenry County sheriff’s police said no marks or other signs of foul play were found at the scene, which was about 150 feet north of Dublin Court, a side street where Powers’ car was found parked. The creek feeds into Lake Killarney.

Mary Jo Coonen, chief investigator for the coroner’s office, said Powers apparently was taking a shortcut across the creek to get to his car when he fell in.

Coonen said the youth, whose body was found by neighborhood children playing in the creek, had a history of diabetes. Samples of blood and other body fluids taken during an autopsy Saturday are due back in about two weeks, she said.
