A fight late Sunday between motorcyclists in the Fitter Inn, 620 W. Rand Rd., turned ugly when one group made a strategic retreat and went home for their chainsaws, authorities in McHenry County said.

But the attack was thwarted by police from six departments who arrived at the scene before the brawl resumed and arrested four persons, McHenry County Sheriff William Mullen said.

During the fight’s early rounds a combatant produced a handgun, prompting members of the other side to head for home, where they obtained chainsaws and boards, said Assistant Chief Phil Gust, of the McHenry County Rescue Squad.

But somebody called the police, prompting a response from the sheriff’s office and the Lakemoor, Johnsburg, McHenry, McCullom Lake and Holiday Hills departments, which arrived in time to prevent further combat.

Those arrested were identified as John H. White, 27, of 616 Rand Rd., Lakemoor, charged with aggravated assault; Richard R. Collard, 34, of 124 S. Sheridan Av., Lakemoor, aggravated assault; Alexander G. Edelman, 44, of 404 N. River Rd., Fox River Grove, criminal damage to property; and Cristel I. Gretenhard, 31, of 9806 Edwards St., Fox River Grove, unlawful use of a weapon.
