A maintenance man on his way to work was killed early Thursday when his pickup truck crossed the center line and collided head-on with a semitractor trailer on Illinois Highway 120 about 2 miles east of McHenry.

Russell E. Sexton, 21, of 710 Barbara Lane in unincorporated McHenry died from multiple head and chest injuries from the collision a tenth of a mile west of Chapel Hill Road, said McHenry County Sheriff William Mullen.

Mullen said Sexton, who was eastbound on his way to pick up his father before going to work in Palatine, collided with a truck driven by James E. Skerney, 54, of 24907 Jackson Rd. in unincorporated Marengo at about 5:30 a.m.

Sexton was pronounced dead at the scene by Judy Huemann, a coroner’s investigator.
