For the first time since it opened in 1913, Mooseheart will expand its services to include needy children who are not necessarily connected with members of the Loyal Order of Moose.
The Moose Supreme Council last month approved the change in a move that ultimately could more than double the number of children at the 1,200-acre self-contained facility near Batavia. About 300 children now live at Mooseheart.
Original policy allowed for only the orphans and widows of Moose members to live at Mooseheart. That policy was later loosened to include children who come from broken homes.
