The sister of Dennis C. Miller, president of the Marengo Rescue Squad Board of Trustees, was charged with attempted murder Monday after she was accused of stabbing Miller several times with a kitchen knife in a quarrel over property.

Miller, 55, was listed in stable condition in Woodstock Memorial Hospital from several stab wounds in the back of the head and neck, said Terence Nader, chief of the criminal division for the McHenry County state’s attorney’s office.

Susan M. Miller, 51, of 405 1/2 W. Prairie Ave., Marengo, also has been charged with armed violence and aggravated battery, Nader said.

She allegedly stabbed her brother, who also is a maintenance worker for the Illinois Tollway Authority, with a 5-inch knife, he said.

Nader said the quarrel, which started in Dennis Miller’s house at 2917 Parkview Drive, in unincorporated Marengo, and continued onto the front yard shortly before noon Saturday, apparently was over family property, Nader said. At least part of the quarrel was witnessed by a relative, said Nader, who declined to elaborate on the motive.

Susan Miller, who faces 6 to 30 years in prison on armed violence and attempted murder and 2 to 5 years on aggravated battery, was being held on $150,000 bond.
