About 100 creations in wood, stone, glass and metal will be on exhibit and for sale ($500 to $6,200) from Friday to Dec. 11 at the Workhouse, a cooperative of artists’ workshops and businesses at 735 W. Division St. “We’re looking to see what people can do creatively with a specific piece like the coffee table,” says Jack Szarapka, founder of the Chicago Furniture Designers Association, which is co-sponsoring the event with the Workhouse.
“It’s a chance to put a new style to an old idea. We expect the tables to come in different shapes and sizes.” About 50 furniture designers, including Jordan Mozer, Mario Villa, Martin Spicuzza, Morlen Sinoway and Dan Blue are showing tables in the exhibit.
Look for a triangular-shaped, glass top balanced by three black fiberglass baby figures by Clint Borucki and Ken Clemente, which sells for $6,200; an $800 Scandinavian-style oak and glass table by Daniel Holme and a $1,000 steel and concrete table shaped like the letter “U” laying on its side by Mark Peters, Tamar Myers and Rob Neper.
A reception to meet some of the artists will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. Show hours are noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Other times are by appointment. Call the Workhouse at 312-266 5959, or Szarapka at 312-243-8395.
