Patricia Musson, longtime Wayne Township assessor, became Du Page County’s highest-ranking female department official Tuesday when County Board members unanimously approved her nomination as the county’s supervisor of assessments.
The approval came during Tuesday’s board meeting.
Although the choice of Musson, assessor in Wayne since 1977, was widely hailed, County Board member Olivia Gow chided the method in which board Chairman Aldo Botti announced his recommendation of Musson.

Botti called a news conference last week before telling board members of his choice, and he opposed having Musson appear before the county’s Executive Committee before the nomination went to the board.
“I would prefer that the established process be followed and that we be notified before the press,” said Gow, a member of the Executive Committee.
Musson, 47, will replace Paul Bauer, who resigned in April to take a job in the private sector.
Also Tuesday, for the second time in less than a month the board sent a controversial contract back to the county’s Stormwater Management Committee. That committee twice has recommended that a $3.3 million contract for work at the Elmhurst quarry be awarded to Elmhurst-based T’W Edmier Corp., even though its bid was $10,000 higher than that of low bidder Dyer Construction Inc., of Dyer, Ind.
The committee threw out Dyer’s bid because of the bid’s mathematical error and because the company did not supply a list of subcontractors.
Dyer officials have threatened legal action.
