Most county employees will receive a flat 3 percent pay increase next month if a resolution approved Monday by the county`s Finance Committee is approved by the County Board.
The committee agreed to eliminate merit raises in the 1993 budget in a proposal that now goes before the board at its meeting next Tuesday.
Employees were given a 2 percent increase last December and were in line to receive as much as an additional 2 percent in merit raises.
Budget subcommittee chairman Michael Formento said the committee drew a middle ground in reaching the flat 3 percent figure.
”The 2 percent was a given, we could have gone up another 2 percent, but we stayed with 1 percent,” Formento said. ”We were very responsible.”
The committee also agreed to lift the ceiling on salary ranges so that all but a handful of the more than 300 county employees who are at or near the top of their pay scale will be eligible to receive pay increases.
