Swing Out Sister
Get In Touch With Yourself (Mercury) (STAR)(STAR)1/2
Andy Connell and Corinne Drewery`s delve even deeper into their record collection for their second full-length release under the Swing Out Sister tag to recreate the lush, sophisticated orchestration of such `70s icons as Barry White and Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. As the principal songwriter and co-producer, Connell perfectly recaptures the mood of the era without resorting to camp while Drewery sings with a sultry tenderness that brings to mind Sade. The title track, ”Am I The Same Girl” and ”Notgonnachange” make the first side much stronger than the second, but overall it is a firm artistic step forward for a band accustomed to making singles.
