There are people who crave chocolate-chip cookies, and then there are those who crave chocolate-chip cookie dough. Now the dough lovers have a new source-chunks of cookie dough packed in vanilla ice cream.
Edy`s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream, which first appeared in freezer cases in February, is ”flying off the shelves,” said Diane McIntyre, Edy`s spokeswoman. Edy`s dough ice cream follows a similiar flavor introduced last year by Ben & Jerry`s.
”We distribute Ben & Jerry`s, and we saw how very popular it was for them,” McIntyre said. ”We think it will become a standard, like cookies `n` cream.”
Edy`s chocolate-chip ice cream is premium, compared to Ben & Jerry`s superpremium, which means you get slightly less butterfat eating Edy`s-if that makes any difference when you`re wolfing down cookie dough. It is available in area groceries for about $4.20 a gallon and $2.60 a quart.
