A Man Called E (Polydor) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
Dedicated to ”everyone who ever rained on my parade,” E`s debut shows the enigmatic singer/songwriter is never quite so happy as when he`s miserable. On ”Fitting In With the Misfits,” a letter sung to his mother, E tells of his joy at finding ”people as bleak as me.” Other tracks like
”Hello Cruel World,” ”Are You and Me Gonna Happen,” ”Nowheresville”
and ”I`ve Been Kicked Around” don`t offer even that much of a glimmer of hope, but they do provide some finely crafted Beatle-esque melodies. E`s compositions are delicate mixtures of piano, acoustic and electric guitars with a few crackling drum fills to remind you it`s still rock.
