Illinois-Chicago: It has been ”Make Way for the Freshmen” lately on the Illinois-Chicago hockey team, and senior Rick Judson has paid the price. Judson has nine goals this season but none since the Flames` Dec. 13-14 losses at Ohio State. But Judson hasn`t stopped contributing. Since being moved from left wing to center, he`s been adding to his point totals with assists.

He got one over the weekend in the Flames` double loss to Lake Superior State, moving into third place in career scoring with 152 points. Judson needs two more points to tie Sheldon Gorski for second on the all-time list.

Freshmen have accounted for 46 percent of UIC`s goals (35 of 76) this season.

In women`s basketball, Angela Gilbert moved into third place on the career rebounding list with 634 after three Sunday against Wisconsin-Green Bay. UIC lost to Green Bay 87-47 to fall to 4-13, 1-4 in the North Star Conference heading into Monday`s game vs. Northern Illinois.

The men`s gymnastics team defeated Western Michigan 268.45-264 last weekend behind all-around winner Rick Simonski (53.35 points) and pommel horse winner Kevin Ashton (9.75). The women`s team lost to Western Michigan 181.25-132.05 and Eastern Michigan despite freshman Andrea Szatkowski`s victories in the all-around.

The men`s swimming team lost to Western Illinois 136-107 but beat Bradley 111-91. The women lost to Western 139-96. Diver Joe Cipich won the 1- and 3-meter events at Western and at Bradley, setting a pool record at Bradley of 336.20 points in the 1-meter. Freshman Tyler Koyle won the 200 IM and 200 buttterfly at Western.
