Roberta Flack
Set the Night to Music (Atlantic) (STAR) 1/2
Ordinarily, the combination of Roberta Flack and several timeless standards would be a sure thing. Unfortunately a third ingredient-decent accompaniment-is lacking. Instead of assembling a polished orchestra to interpret such classics as ”Unforgettable,” ”Always” and ”When Someone Tears Your Heart in Two,” the producers have turned the job over to a collection of techno-wizards. The resulting electronics are feeble and unfocused. Flack deserves better.
