Marley Marl
In Control Vol. II (Cold Chillin`) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
Marley Marl`s personal sonic stamp on a number of successful recordings
(most recently L.L. Cool J`s ”Mama Said Knock You Out”) has made him one of the most sought-after and influential producers in rap. His second outing under his own name, subtitled ”For Your Steering Pleasure,” is packed with the kind of thick, rolling, bass-heavy grooves that are perfect for booming out of megawatt car sound systems. Aided by an array of performers, the project is a Who`s Who of rap: L.L. Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, Chuck D, the Flex, Chubb Rock and Tragedy the Intelligent Hoodlum lend their voices and ideas to Marley Marl`s musical creations. None of the tracks are throwaways, and several-”America Eats the Young,” ”Keep Control,”
”Buffalo Soldier,” ”Girl I Was Wrong”-are outstanding.
