Gutterboy

Gutterboy (Geffen)

(STAR)(STAR) 1/2

This quartet has carved out a niche that exists somewhere between Bruce Springsteen and the Smiths. While raspy-voiced Dito sings about grabbing his best girl and leaving town, the rest of Gutterboy engages in pumping out an appealing brand of jangly guitar-based pop fueled primarily by lead axeman Denny Hulsizer. Fleshing out the sound is the tight rhythm section of Eric Hulsizer (bass) and Johnny Koncz (drums).
