”It`s a Black Thing” and ”Too High,” the first two cuts from this L.A.-based rapper`s album are jazz-inspired hip-hop tunes that address such weighty issues as the necessity of black pride and the perils of drug abuse.
Then suddenly, the record turns into a lecture by Kool Rock Jay on what an all-around stud he is.
Now boasting is fine-it`s one of the pillars of rap-but when it`s delivered without a whiff of wit or imagination, it quickly becomes tedious, like being cornered by a bore who insists on relating obviously inflated details of his, no doubt, drab existence.
Some nice mixing by the D.J. Slice, though.
