Mike Preston: Quick thoughts from Ravens’ 49-27 loss to Broncos

August 19, 2019 at 5:11 a.m.

I expect a lot of the national media to say that the reason the Ravens lost and gave up a lot of yards to Denver and Peyton Manning is because...

Season in review: There is no sugar-coating it: Cody was one of the team¿s biggest disappointments. Penciled in as the starter at nose tackle before training camp, the 2010 second-round draft pick watched his starting gig evaporate in the hot summer sun. Veteran Ma'ake Kemoeatu started in Week 1 and outplayed Cody -- mostly by default. Cody never regained his starting job and played sparingly in the playoffs.

Signature moment: None come to mind, unless you count him often getting pushed off the point of attack.

Stat that stands out: three -- total tackles in four postseason games for Cody.

Pro Football Focus grade: -6.5 overall on defense | -1.9 against the run | -4.5 as a pass rusher | -0.1 penalty.

Outlook for 2013 and beyond: Cody is entering the final year of his contract. And while he will carry a cap hit of less than $1 million in 2013, he might not be guaranteed a roster spot if he does not show improvement this offseason and make a push to start again. His conditioning was a concern when he was drafted in 2010, and Cody still gets tired too easily. A man his size shouldn't be getting pushed around.
